Zurich Overview

Zurich, located to the north of Switzerland, is the countries largest city, with a population of over 360,000 people. Renowned as a major financial centre - home of the "Swiss bank account" - and also as a home for culture, where the Dadaist movement began and James Joyce is buried.

The city is beautiful in many ways, from the natural splendour of the nearby Alps, the location next to the Lake of Zurich and the River Limmat flowing through its centre to the human beauty created by outstanding architecture and artworks displayed throughout Zurich in the many galleries and museums.

When it comes to shopping - a visit to the Bahnhofstrasse is a must. With wonderfully old fashioned streets oozing character and charm there is a great contrast between the traditional Swiss retailers and the cutting edge fashions - sharing the same space to create a real "shopping experience".

Leisure time is an important facet of Zurich life, so the plethora of restaurants, bars and clubs is no surprise to the cognoscenti. Whether it be a delightful coffee house for a break during shopping, a fantastic evening meal with friends and loved ones, or dancing the night away to the music of your choice there really is something for everyone in Zurich.

Like the world famous Swiss Army knife, Zurich is a revelation when you take a little time to look inside and discover what is tucked away.
