Verona Overview
Verona, with approximately 250,000 residents, sits in the northern part of Italy near to Lake Garda. The whole city really has the feel of a bygone time, embracing its history and culture and ensuring it is never forgotten.
Verona is of course the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and, being in the city, there really is a sense that this tragic love story is still being played out today, such is the feeling of history and passion within the citys ancient walls. Highlighting its importance the city of Verona has been named as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. However it is not all history here. Being located on a major European communications link Verona is a major player in business and commerce, with key conferences and business deals being confirmed in the city regularly.
It has long been recognised as a wonderful place to stay to relax and recharge the batteries; for so long in fact that it was Julius Caesar's preferred destination when the stress of running the Roman Empire all got a bit much for him.
There are two particular aspects of Verona that are consuming passions for the locals here - Opera and football. The stunning Arena provides a dramatic backdrop to regular operatic performances while the warm, passionate crowds create their own theatre watching their team playing top class football. Both are highly recommended.
For an outstanding cultural experience take the time to visit Verona and savour all that it has to offer.

Also here is the Amphitheatre, called the Arena and built around 30AD it is the third largest in Italy and is still in use today, though for somewhat different purposes now such as markets and wonderful evenings of opera.

The two main areas to go to are Via Mazzini and Via Cappello where you can spend to your hearts content.
Verona Sporting Events
The main football team in the city is Chievo Verona who play in Serie A. As with all Italian football fans the club and the game is a passion, so a visit to the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi will be an amazing experience and one to be entered into any itinerary.
