Toronto Overview

Toronto is Canada's largest city, with a population in excess of 2.5 million. It is also the provincial capital of Ontario and as such is recognised as a cultural and commercial capital also. Toronto's status is further enhanced by being home to the CN Tower the worlds tallest free standing structure.

Acknowledged by the UN as the most ethnically diverse city in the world this amalgam of styles and cultures lends Toronto a really cosmopolitan feeling, where all ideas are embraced and welcomed. Try some of the restaurants here and let your palette savour the variety of flavours from all around the globe. There is seemingly no end to the variety of clubs, bars and restaurants in this vibrant city, and that means there is something for everyone, and that does mean everyone.

The cosmopolitan feeling is continued with the support for the Gay Pride festival, the second largest in the world and the Gay Villages that offer great nightlife for all who visit.

Taking a more traditional perspective a visit to the worlds oldest, and largest, annual fair, the Canadian National Exhibition, is an essential part of any visitors itninerary during August. There is too much to list here but as an example there you can see a human cannonball, butter sculptures, dog performances and music.

Top Toronto Attractions

The most obvious one is the CN Tower, the worlds tallest free standing structure at 1815 feet which is located in the Harbourfront district. For some of the best museums and galleries in Canada Toronto is the place to visit - the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario being just two to put on your list. As a culturally diverse city it is no surprise to find an array of clubs and bars catering for all tastes, and the area of the city is even called Clubland so you know when you've found it.

Shopping in Toronto

For the authentic Toronto experience head for St Lawrence market where the city's finest selection of fresh meat and produce has been sold since 1850. Also try Kensington Market for all sorts of clothing, from pre-owned classic items to brand new suits. Then a trip to Burlington Mall where you will find well over 100 stores of all descriptions.

Toronto Sporting Events

Motor racing is a part of Toronto's sporting line up, with the Molson Indy in July forming part of the US CART racing season. There are also teams in the main leagues for NHL Ice Hockey - the Toronto Maple Leafs; Major League Baseball - the Toronto Blue Jays and NBA Basketball - the Toronto Raptors, as well as high profile representation in a number of other sports leagues.
