Tokyo Travel Guide
Travel guide to Tokyo, Japan with comprehensive information about events, shopping, and major Tokyo sporting events to help you enjoy your visit more.
Tokyo Overview
Tokyo is the capital city of Japan, as well as it's most densely populated, with approximately 12 million people living there. Within this melting pot of activity is the financial centre of Asia, where billions of dollars are traded daily and fortunes are made and lost in the ultra high tech trading offices of major organisations. Sitting around this modern business environment though are a large number of beautiful parks and gardens, offering a retreat to somewhere more serene, almost like taking a step back in time to the earlier days of Japan, when time and space were not at such a premium as they are now.
For visitors the main nightlife in Tokyo is to be found in Roppongi. Here can be found restaurants, bars, clubs and cabarets, with entertainment available. It is a vibrant area of the city that is very popular with tourists although it is always worth checking how the different establishes charge, as misunderstandings can easily ensue.
In Japan, and Tokyo in particular, fireworks have long been an integral part of any celebrations and there are major fireworks displays held here, especially during the Summer months. As the creators of the firework the Japanese create displays that are remembered for a long time, so don't miss out on the opportunity to join in the experience.

Top Tokyo Attractions
Only 45 minutes away from the city is the dramatic Mount Fuji, a dormant volcano that makes a distinct contrast to the high tech hustle and bustle of the city. For a man made experience take a walk over the Rainbow Bridge, a recently constructed suspension bridge that goes over Tokyo Bay. There are also many museums and art galleries where all the different eras of the country's history can be explored.
Shopping in Tokyo
Tokyo has different shopping districts for various product categories, the most well known being Ginza for department stores and luxury items; Akihabara for every conceivable electrical product and Shinjuku for cameras. There are several more, each concentrating on particular market areas which of course makes the shopping experience straightforward in one respect, although the sheer choice in each area may well prove overwhelming for some.
Tokyo Sporting Events
The traditional sport of Sumo is still tremendously popular here, with some of the sports main exponents being held in higher regard than music and film stars. The second big sport here is baseball, with a thriving league and this is followed by football, that has seen a huge upturn in interest since the late 1980's when it was launched with the aid of several western stars of the game, including England's own Gary Lineker.
