Tenerife Overview
Tenerife is a Spanish Island, the largest of the Canary Islands located off the coast of Africa. It has been a major tourist destination for many years and is extremely popular.
There are two primary destinations on Tenerife. To the north of the island is Puerto De La Cruz, a place renowned for rest and relaxation since the 19th century whilst to the south of the island is Playa de Las Americas which is more lively. The divide between the two is more pronounced by the physical changes of the landscape. To the north there is lush greenery and flowers, with the nearby harbour creating a very warm and welcoming feel to the area. In the south though the climate is much drier, so the greenery is not to be found, replaced by rocks and sandy beaches. The island has utilised these natural elements very well though, making the most of each to suit the visitors.
The nightlife in Tenerife is a major part of the islands appeal. For those wishing to visit bars and clubs the south of the island is all anyone needs. With bars and clubs everywhere you turn, and the latest club tracks enticing you in a fun night is guaranteed. Every night is party night here. In the north though there is a more relaxed pace, with the more local tavernas and restaurants taking precedence.

Top Tenerife Attractions
Loro Parque is a fantastic wildlife centre to the north of the island near Puerto De La Cruz. With the biggest dolphinarium in Europe and a host of wonderful animals that are well looked after it is a definite must see. There are a host of other parks offering all manner of attractions, from themed water parks with slides to quad bike trails and karting.
Shopping in Tenerife
The Canary Islands are duty free for shopping, so items such as wines, spirits, tobacco and perfumes tend to be much lower priced than elsewhere. Local markets offering their own produce and hand crafted items are very well attended. At the other end of the scale the high end retailers also do good business, with the fashion boutiques of Santa Cruz being popular.
Tenerife Sporting Events
Water sports are a key element of the islands attraction, catering as it does for large numbers of overseas visitors. Water skiing, jet bikes and wind surfing are all very popular here. In addition there are a number of quad bike trails where the more adventurous can ride and explore in their own time.
