Tallinn Overview
Capital of Estonia, the city of Tallinn emerged from the long Soviet era with most of its heritage still intact, and not all that many ugly slab buildings around like in many of Josef Stalin's other conquests after World War II.
For around 50 years a mere cog in the Soviet Machine, the discontent at centuries of foreign rule ended with one of the most peaceful revolutions in history when the republic became independent from Moscow in the early 1990s.
Now a fully paid up member of the EU, Tallinn is becoming the latest "new Prague", and the city is emerging from its reinvention with plenty of interest and fascination from all over the world. The supposedly wild nightlife draws stag parties from the rest of Europe, and there are enough stunning buildings in the old town to justify the city as an interesting cultural destination for visitors, Tallinn is a city with an increasing number of visitors, and correspondingly rising prices - although at the moment it is still one of the cheapest cities to visit in Europe. As Tallinn pushes its way into the premier league of city break destinations, you can guarantee that its current bargain basement reputation will soon be over.
If you want to visit Tallinn before the prices go up, then take advantage of the cheap flights to Tallinn, and enjoy a couple of sips of Vana Tallinn, the fiery local liqueur.

Top Tallinn Attractions
One of the main attractions of a trip to Tallinn is the chance to wander through the city soaking up the vibrancy of the population. People come from all over Europe to enjoy the nightlife in Tallinn, and there are many bars, clubs, and pavement cafes to eat and drink in.
Tallinn boasts a number of museums and its artistic heritage and outgoing culture means that the galleries are literally overflowing with locally produced works of art. Most of these are of a comparatively high standard, and are on sale.
Shopping in Tallinn
Tallinn has developed a reputation as the grocers of Scandinavia, and residents of Helsinki are known to make a trip across the Baltic to do their shopping in the Estonian Capital on account of the low prices. Any essentials, and local goods are desperately cheap in Tallinn, although for any designer goods, you are as well to visit Helsinki where you can pay even more than you would in the UK.
Tallinn Sporting Events
Although not known as a major sporting city, the global march of business has ensured that Tallinn has its fair share of golf courses around the city. On the whole these are of a moderate standard, but are exceptionally cheap in comparison to the UK.
The most popular football team in Tallinn are Flora FC Tallinn. They play their home matches at the Le Coq Arena in the city centre, and should you be interested in watching them play against one of their local rivals.
