Sydney Overview
Capital of Australia in all but name, Sydney is the largest and most popular cities with visitors to this amazing country. Offering a cosmopolitan atmosphere, iconic sights, and nightlife renowned across the world, it is not hard to see why it is such a popular destination with visitors of all ages.
Whether you are looking for a city of culture, want to see sports, enjoy the nightlife, or soak up the sunshine on a white sandy beach, Sydney has plenty to offer. From the famous Sydney Opera House to the shores of Bondi Bay, Sydney is a city that has something for everyone to enjoy.
Many people visit Sydney as the first stop off on a comprehensive tour of Australia, and only stay for a few days, but with all the many attractions to see, along with the great climate, and exciting nature of the city, you could stay for weeks, and still not experience everything that Sydney has to offer.

Top Sydney Attractions
The most famous attractions of Sydney - the Opera House and harbour bridge are free to look at, but for just a few pounds, you can experience the thrilling walk to the top of the bridge - an unforgettable way to spend some time - and see the amazing views. Make sure you visit Darling Harbour - where there are a number of museums, and a fashionable nightlife centre, and The Rocks at the foot of the bridge - the closest thing to an Old Town in Sydney.
Bondi Beach is popular with surfers and sun worshippers alike, and is a short distance from the city centre, or if you don't mind travelling a bit farther, you can get the ferry through Sydney Harbour to the pleasant resort of Manly with its great bars and shoreline.
Shopping in Sydney
Sydney's proximity to the Far East means that the latest electronic goods are available in the city long before you would find them in the UK, although you should make sure that things will work at home as Australia is a long way to go to make an exchange. The main shopping area is on Oxford Street, where you can find the big department stores Grace Bros and David Jones, while on Castlereagh Street, there are plenty of smaller designer boutiques to browse in. For surfer fashions and the ever-popular flea markets, head to Bondi, and check out the bargains on the back streets and along the shorefront.
Sydney Sporting Events
As you would expect from a city that hosted the Olympics in 2000, one of the most popular pastimes in Sydney is sport. Whether you want to take advantage of the weather and roller blade through Centennial Park, or take to the water off Bondi and try your hand at surfing, the out doors is a great place to be.
The facilities from the Olympics are generally open to the public throughout the year, and host many events including international cricket - the Ashes tour will take place in 2007, and there are regular rugby matches and that old Australian favourite - Aussie Rules.
