Stuttgart Overview

Located in southern Germany, nestling between the Black Forest and Swabian mountains, Stuttgart is a major economic and industrial centre with a population of almost 600,000 people.

As part of its industrial background it is home to the car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, as well as Porsche, who have the Stuttgart name on its badge, and Bosch who manufacture car components. The VW Beetle prototype was first put together here too, emphasising the importance of this region in the overall vehicle market.

As a city Stuttgart is warm and welcoming, with its variety of café bars and restaurants inviting the visitor in. The shops also have a personable charm about them, which in such modern times is refreshingly welcome.

Culturally too the city shines, possessing a whole host of theatres and opera houses, in particular the Staatstheater. Opera, ballet and music are ever present here, with performances by the worlds finest taking place regularly. There are also some wonderful buildings and sculptures to be found around the city - in the Schillerplatz and the Old Palace to name but two, and the Staatsgalerie is a wonderful art gallery with works by Reubens and Rembrandt amongst others.

Stuttgart is often seen only for its industrial and commercial prowess, but there is so much more to it than that. The city and in fact the whole area embodies all that is good about the German people.
