Salt Lake City Overview
Salt Lake City, is primarily a tourist destination, utilising the areas natural resources to create a place that is truly interesting and pleasurable to visit. The population is in the region of 180,000, working primarily in the service based industries.
The city gets its name from the Great Salt Lake to its north, where the saline content is so high that little is able to live in it. The nearby Bonneville Salt Flats are well known for their use as venues for land speed record attempts. With the hard flat surface of this dried up lake and its vast size it is seen as the ideal location.
Acknowledged as the home of the Mormons, or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-ay Saints, the city was actually created by them in 1847, it does have a lot to offer those interested in the subject - both historical, with churches and ephemera, through to ongoing work with local sermons and the Church Headquarters being based in the city. There is so much more to Salt Lake City though, so those without the necessary religious interest should not feel dissuaded from visiting.
The performing arts are well represented here, with dance, opera and theatre shows all over the city providing high quality cultural entertainment that makes a nice contrast with the more outdoors experiences that are a key part of the areas attraction.
