Prague Overview

Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic and, with a population of around 1.2 million, it is also the country's largest. It has a remarkably strong economy that dwarfs the rest of Eastern Europe, putting it into the major league of European Cities generally and enabling it to further develop, utilising the revenue being generated through Western European connections.

As a city the word beautiful is most apt, primarily because of its abundance of historical architecture in the Old Town and the amalgamation of different styles brought by having a history that began around 1000BC. Interestingly this mix of architectural styles has proved to be a hit with filmmakers. Prague is often used to portray other cities, especially in a historical context, where the sheer authenticity of the city shines through.

As a social destination Prague has never been busier. With the sheer number of clubs and bars here combined with very attractive pricing it is becoming the European destination of choice. The city is well aware of its popularity and works hard to accommodate the needs of visitors, providing a varied array of clubs in the evenings, where most interests are accommodated. During the daytime there are many bars and restaurants to stop and enjoy a little break. The city offers a cosmopolitan mix of tastes and all at remarkable value.

Shopping in Prague

The main shopping areas tend to be based around Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square, where shops can be found selling pretty much everything. There has also been a growth in the number of western stores in the city, with shopping malls springing up to bring the latest fashions and consumer items with them. As a combination of old and new Prague is at the forefront, mixing its history and culture with a modern economy.

Prague Sporting Events

With regard to football Sparta Prague are the city's best known team, playing regularly in the UEFA Champions League. There is also Slavia Prague although they are very much the second tier team in the city, due in part to their difficulty in raising finance.
