Paris Overview
Paris, the capital city of France, has been involved in the world's history in every time period, as befits a powerful city in such a central location. From the Gauls fighting against the Romans, through the power struggles of the 15th and 16th centuries and on to the pivotal role France played in the second world war. The city has had a major role to play in all these events and many more besides.
As a long standing power in Europe the impact on the city has been phenomenal, with an array of cultural icons second to none. The sheer breadth and quality of architecture takes the breath away, and the pieces of art to be found here are unrivalled. The Louvre for example houses the enigmatic Mona Lisa and the beautiful Venus di Milo; more well known pieces of art do not exist.
Paris is also recognised as the home of fashion, producing as it has the major designers of the last few generations. This has given the Parisians the deserved reputation of style icons, creating a whole fashion industry on the back of it.
The city is one of the truly great, awe-inspiring cities of the world, a place that everyone should take the time to visit and appreciate, for it really is that good.
