Paphos Overview
Paphos is located on the south western coast of Cyprus and is one of the country's main tourist destinations. The population of only around 25,000 are employed primarily in the tourism sector such is the areas reliance on it. Of course the city is a wonderful destination for visitors, and in the summer months the city generates a great deal of its annual revenue from the influx of tourists.
The weather during the summer is ideal, combining as it does a lovely warm temperature with a very dry climate. Even during the wintertime it is still quite mild, which is helping the country as a whole with a developing tourism trade in these traditionally quieter months.
In mythology Paphos is the birthplace of the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite and this traditional aspect of the city is a key element of its attraction. St Paul was apparently imprisoned here in 45AD for example. Originating way back in 1400BC Paphos has seen a great deal, and the buildings that remain are well visited, with many tours available detailing the history of each.
In stark contrast to the historical side is the prevalence of bars and clubs to cater for the tourists here. Called Bar Street it is exactly what it says. Aimed mainly at the younger market the bars and clubs are open into the small hours for partying, and very popular they are.
Paphos is a city undergoing change. This is to ensure its survival so the varying needs of the tourist are combined with the constant that is the city's majestic history and the areas climate to create a delightful holiday experience, where all ages can feel welcome.

Shopping in Paphos
With tourism as the city's primary trade it is no surprise to find the shops in Paphos are concentrated primarily on tourist items. Pottery and handicrafts make up the majority of products available, being sold from quaint little shop fronts generally.
Paphos Sporting Events
As an island with a fantastic climate watersports are the most popular here by far. Windsurfing, sailing, diving and jet skiing are all here in abundance, providing the visitors to the island with all they could wish for. There are other sports here too, with rallying being a particularly exciting one, but generally the climate and the environment are more suited to the water than anything else.
