Palma Overview
Palma is the capital of Majorca, a Spanish island and part of the Balearics. Majorca itself is primarily a tourist destination, with Palma being one its most popular resorts.
The city has a long history, commencing around 2000 years ago with the Romans inhabiting it. With changes in power over the years the island itself has seen lots of changes, with the architectural variations being of particular note. There are a number of buildings from the 14th century that are still in place today and are tremendously popular with visitors, in particular the Royal Palace and the cathedral.
Majorca itself has a very temperate climate, offering warm dry summers along with mild to warm and dry winters. This has enabled tourism to flourish all year round, and as the main city on the island Palma has benefited greatly from this interest. The summer months are by far the busiest, but with other visitors taking the opportunity to visit at quieter times, especially the golfing groups that are a constant element here, the city is able to provide its services for twelve months of the year, creating the extra revenue needed to develop at the same time.
The city has the ability to make people of all ages welcome, with things to keep the varied age groups interested and occupied. The main tourist market for example is based around the club culture, with bars and nightlife focused on them. The beach is also a key part for the younger visitors, with more bars and lots of sports on offer. Those who are a little older do not feel left out though, as in other parts of the city the pace is a little less lively, with more cultural aspects to appreciate and quieter bars and restaurants.
All in all Palma is a fantastic holiday destination, no matter who is going there they can be assured of a great time, with weather and entertainment to suit.

In addition to the many wonderful tourist sports for entertainment there are some lovely cultural monuments too, most notable of which are the cathedral and the Royal Palace, both of which date from the 14th century and are fine examples of gothic architecture.
Shopping in Palma
Palma provides an eclectic mix of shops to suit the variety of different visitors to the city. They range from the memento souvenirs through to locally produced goods - usually pottery and leather goods - sold in the many local markets, through to the upmarket shops where the designer brands can be found.
Palma Sporting Events
Sport plays a large part in the whole island's economy, with one of the largest being golf. With some beautifully presented courses in fantastic surroundings they have proved to be a magnet for visiting golfers who can play the game in short sleeves all year round. Naturally water sports are another major attraction with the climate the area has, and these tend to be driven more by the summer tourist markets unlike golf which is all year round.
