Paderborn Overview
Paderborn is in the heart of Germany and is representative of all that is great within the country. Parks and greenery for example are an integral part of the city's make up, providing residents and visitors with beautiful natural surroundings right in the middle of the city. The architecture here is most attractive too, a mix of the old and new, since the city is over 1200 years old and has been developed over time.
Remarkably there are some 15,000 students in Paderborn, spread between five Universities, including the original one that began in 1614. This makes the city a major seat of learning, an accolade that is taken very seriously here and one that is supported by the ongoing support of culture in its many forms. With the many libraries, theatres, museums and galleries here it is a remarkable place to be for those wanting to learn.
The flip side of having so many students of course is that they all need somewhere to relax, so there are masses of bars, clubs and restaurants available. The nightlife here is excellent, catering as it does for such a large number of young people. There is lots of live music and some great clubs.

Top Paderborn Attractions
Being an old city the buildings themselves are worthy of note for their dramatic styling, making a simple walk around the city something much more. The central square and the adjacent town hall make a wonderful starting point to explore. Sights to note in the city include the ruins of the Carolingian Royal Palace, St Bartholomew's Chapel, the Ottonian Royal Palace and the city's cathedral.
Shopping in Paderborn
The main shopping area is in Pader Springs, and is home to a wide range of retailers. It is a modern mix of brands where all are catered for, from the budget conscious to those wanting to make something of a statement. This is typical of most cities it has to be said, but certainly not a bad thing as it ensures no one is left uncatered for.
Paderborn Sporting Events
SC Paderborn 07 are the city's football team and are making strides up the German league. In addition there is a lot of interest in traditionally American sports, caused in no small part by the proximity of US Army barracks. The Paderborn Untouchables baseball team live up to their name, dominating the German league and the American Football side, the Dolphins, are a strong force also.
