Nice Travel Guide
Travel guide to Nice, France with comprehensive information about events, shopping, and major Nice sporting events to help you enjoy your visit more.
Nice Overview
Situated on the Mediterranean in the south of France, Nice is one of the most popular destinations on the French Riviera. It is synonymous with glamour and style, often being used as a backdrop for the likes of James Bond and a regular haunt of film stars.
The city itself is quite a mixture of styles, with the ornate glamour being only one aspect of it. The Old Town for example is reminiscent of 17th century Italian architecture, with small narrow streets and clay tiled roofs evoking an earlier period. This influence is not unexpected since Italy is only a little way down the coast, and many settlers came from there.
When it comes to nightlife there is a dramatic difference between the various alternatives. Within the more normally populated areas are to be found traditional restaurants and locals bars, where life goes on beyond the glare of the flashbulb. In stark contrast to this are the bars clubs and restaurants around the Promenade des Anglais, where prices take a quantum leap and a different kind of clientele can be found. Each to their own as they say, and both options are experiences that should not be missed.
Nice is a beautiful city and one that combines real variety for the visitor. From walking out of the casino to a waiting limousine one night to eating Bouillabaisse with local fishermen the next.

Top Nice Attractions
The whole city is glorious and worthy of savouring, however, for some specific places to visit consider the Matisse Museum, the Rue de France pedestrianised zone where the whole of life in Nice is condensed and also the port itself, where ships can be seen coming and going along the gorgeous Mediterranean coastline and where, after dark, some of the best nightclubs in the city can be found.
Shopping in Nice
As with the rest of the city, shopping offers a variety of styles. Rue de France is the style capital of the city, with wondrous boutiques lining the pedestrianised area. The modern department stores can be found around the Ave Jean Medecin, with the Nice Etoile Mall located here. In the Old Town can be found the more rustic offerings as well as the less expensive smaller shops.
Nice Sporting Events
France has long been associated with the team sports of football and rugby, both of which are well represented here. There is also a lot of interest in cycling, the Tour de France being the worlds premier cycling event of course. With its proximity to the sea there are also opportunities for sailing and water skiing here.
