Montreal Travel Guide
Travel guide to Montreal, Canada with comprehensive information about events, shopping, and major Montreal sporting events to help you enjoy your visit more.
Montreal Overview
Montreal is the second largest city in Canada, and the largest in the province of Quebec with a population in the region of 1.8 million people. Underlining its cultural heritage it is also the second largest French speaking city in the world, behind Paris.
The city sits at the foot of Mount Royal, and the stunning skyscrapers of the city stand against this backdrop, with local law dictating the buildings cannot be taller than the mountain, thus maintaining the balance of power here, with nature taking the upper hand.
It is acknowledged as one of the friendliest cities too, with enjoyment of life being high on most city residents agendas. This probably explains why there are so many different festivals held here. There is something happening pretty much all the time here, and it is always a wonderful experience as the whole city seems to join together.
The location of the city gives it a very varied climate, with cold, snow laden winters followed by glorious sun filled summers. The different weather conditions don't stop the residents though, accustomed as they are to the variations.
Montreal is one of those cities that gets better upon each visit, each time the visitor appreciates more about the city and the people, and with the variation of weather conditions it is like seeing a different place for travellers going during the different seasons.

Top Montreal Attractions
Museums in Montreal are everywhere it seems, but this is part of the city's style. A couple of the main ones are Museum of Fine Arts and also the Interactive Science Centre. For a more physical experience go to Park des Iles, the largest park in Montreal and offering great walks, bike rides and sailing.

The city provides a great number of shops, offering a wide range of products for sale, often in areas that have become associated with different lines. The Museum district for example is the place to go for high quality boutiques, while Notre Dame Street is the main antiques area. Montreal Sporting Events
Ice Hockey is the city's sport, with the Montreal Canadiens being their team. One of the original founder members of the NHL they are a pretty strong team in the league and have won the Stanley Cup many times, although not as often as they would like in recent years.
