Marrakech Overview
Come to Marrakech, and you can see the most distinctive of the imperial Moroccan cities, a place where every sight blends into the abiding image of the Arabian Nights, a place where the modern world might as well be a dream.
Marrakech offers visitors the chance to experience the past, in a place inextricably linked to the present with luxurious hotels and elegant shopping centres in the newer parts of the city, so you don't need to sacrifice comfort in order to come into contact with the past.
Marrakech is the last outpost of civilisation before the desert, and has become the tourist gateway to the Atlas Mountains that begin about 50KM from the city. The mountains offer opportunities for hiking in the summer and autumn, and surprisingly, you can even go skiing in Oukaimeden during the winter.
You can get cheap flights to Marrakech throughout the year, and the low cost of living, as well as plenty to see and do in the city, makes a visit to Marrakech, whether just as a short city break, or a longer holiday a great experience.

Top Marrakech Attractions
The sight that is most associated with Marrakech is the stunning minaret of the famous Koutoubia Mosque. The building was constructed in 1147, although just over 50 years later it had to be demolished and rebuilt because it was not correctly aligned with Makkah. The Mosque can hold around 25,000 people, and the interior is one of the most ornate and exceptional examples of Islamic Architecture extant in the world today.
Shopping in Marrakech
For a memorable day shopping, head to the Old City or Medina, where there are a number of bazaars to explore. In these dark alleyways and covered streets, stalls set out on the pavement sell everything from essential oils through to electronics, all of which come with a hefty discount - as long as you are prepared to negotiate over a cup of coffee…
Marrakech Sporting Events
As the gateway to both the Sahara Desert and the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, Marrakech is fast developing a reputation amongst connoisseurs of extreme sports as the perfect place to take a holiday. All manner of activities from desert trekking through to white water rafting are available within a relatively short distance of Marrakech itself.
