Malaga Overview

Perhaps the most popular holiday destination in Europe since the birth of mass tourism, Malaga, the main city on the Costa del Sol lies along the sun kissed southern coast of Spain, where the main resorts are Marbella, Benalmadena, and Torremolinos amongst others. With literally hundreds of hotels and attractions around the area, there is something to appeal to everyone from children to senior citizens, and as its name suggests, the Costa del Sol boasts a great climate all year round meaning that it offers some of the best weather in Europe, especially during the summer that makes it a real hot spot and superb place to top up that tan, while the gentle winters attract people for long holidays to escape the cold of Britain over Christmas and New Year.

Despite its ongoing popularity, in the last few years, Spain's golden coast was looking decidedly tarnished, and there were constant reports that the hotels along it were dirty, poor quality, and most of all, old, but now, with newer, more luxurious places to stay opening all the time, and much needed renovations being carried out on the older properties, the Costa del Sol is regaining its reputation as one of the best places to spend a holiday in Europe.

You can get cheap flights to Malaga and Marbella on the Costa del Sol all year round - if you book well in advance, and with the many high quality hotels and all that there is to do once you are there, there can be no doubt that anyone spending their holiday there will have a great time there enjoying themselves.

Top Malaga Attractions

Perhaps the most obvious attraction of any visit to Malaga is the chance to lie back and relax on the sun kissed beaches of the Costa del Sol. As a holiday destination, there is also plenty to occupy your time away from the seaside, with many attractions at the many resorts along the coast.

At Benalmadena, you can visit the famous Tivoli World theme park with its combination of roller coasters and pleasant gardens, which is a pleasant family day out. Aqua World in Torremolinos offers a variety of thrilling water slides and rides to keep you cool in the sun.

Head inland for the chance to visit the famous white villages of Andalusia, where you can pick up some great souvenirs of your visit, while for exciting nightlife, head for the neon lit clubs of Torremolinos, or the more upmarket Marina bars in Benalmadena.

Shopping in Malaga

Malaga itself has a few pleasant shopping areas, as do the other main Costa del Sol resorts like Marbella and Torremolinos. In supermarkets close to Malaga, you can pick up everything you need for a self-catering holiday.

If you head inland to some of the Andalusian villages, you can buy leather goods intricately carved by the local craftsmen. Gibraltar is a couple of hours drive from The main Costa del Sol resorts, and offers visitors the chance to enjoy tax free shopping, making it a popular place to buy luxury goods and things like cigarettes to bring back to the UK.

Malaga Sporting Events

Aside from water sports on the Costa del Sol beaches, those who want to get out and exercise during their Spanish holiday can make a trip to one of the many golf courses that are available along the coast. These popular facilities dominate the coastal strip, and ensure that visitors come from all over the world to play in the sunshine.

Malaga itself has a bullring where you can see the matadors display their skills, and the Primera Liga football team regularly host matches against some of the best-known teams in Europe.
