Luxembourg Overview
Sandwiched between France and Germany, the tiny state of Luxembourg was one of the first members of the EU. Small enough to drive across in about an hour, Luxembourg fits plenty into its compact area.
Spectacular Alpine scenery, attracts skiers and snow boarders throughout the winter, and climbers in summer, picturesque rolling plains, with small villages that ooze character, where you can shop in small markets for local handicrafts, and souvenirs.
Luxembourg City, the capital is a picturesque place on top of a mountain in the south of the country, and is small enough to explore in a day. There are a number of upmarket boutiques to browse through and several art galleries.
Cheap flights to Luxembourg are available online throughout the year, and once you get there, you will discover an intriguing country of great contrasts, where there is a wealth of experiences waiting for you. Some of the main attractions to see of Luxembourg are the many chateaux that dot the countryside, the best of which can be found around Vianden close to Luxembourg's German border.

Top Luxembourg Attractions
From the top of the Bock, an enormous and impressive castle overlooks the capital of Luxembourg. Beneath this impressive structure, some 25km of tunnels known as the Casements are carved in the rock, and are noted as a UNESCO heritage site. The tunnels have been used as hiding places for the locals and their treasures for centuries and many areas are open to the public on guided tours.
Around two hours drive to the north of the city, you can be in the Ardennes region - a part of Luxembourg famous for some of Europe's most beautiful countryside, and an area famous for its many castles and bridges.
Shopping in Luxembourg
Luxembourg is a wealthy country and has a reputation for being a place where you can get the best of everything. In the city there are dozens of incredibly chic boutiques selling high fashion and beautiful hand made jewellery at what seem like stratospheric prices.
Bear in mind that the goods on sale of the highest standard available, and that prices do not include much in the way of tax, and compared to like for like in the UK, Luxembourg is not as horrendously expensive as it initially seems.
Luxembourg Sporting Events
Mountainous Luxembourg has a reputation as one of the top skiing countries in the world, and is immensely popular with the French and Germans. Resorts tend to be of a very high standard with great facilities and extremely comfortable hotels, and are a real treat during the high season.
In summer, the lack of snow means that the mountains of Luxembourg are great for rock climbers and mountaineers, and there are a number of challenging ascents to choose from.
