Larnaca Overview
Larnaca is a city on the southeast coast of Cyprus, and home to the country's international airport as well as being its main port. It is claimed also to be the oldest city in Cyprus, with history going back some 6,000 years.
The city is full of historical remnants, with buildings, ruins and artefacts all around the area. Larnaca Castle for example, built originally in the 17th century stands as a fine historical monument in its own right but also houses a range of artefacts that greatly enhance the experience of being there, bringing it to life.
As a tourist destination the city has a lot to offer. Being relatively small it possesses that personal feeling that welcomes visitors, but it is large enough to provide all the services people need. It has a wonderful coastline, with around 15 miles of beach on which to relax. There are also a great number and variation of local tavernas and restaurants where the locals welcome visitors and provide some great cuisine.
Larnaca is not the liveliest city in Cyprus, that accolade will go to Aya Napa, where the club scene is well established. However that is not detrimental to Larnaca as a destination, since it ensures that the people who do stay here are of a similar mind set so the balance of the city remains the same.
