Top Kuala Lumpur Attractions
Kuala Lumpur is a city marked by the ambition to become the pre-eminent business centre of South East Asia, and to this end, since the 1990s, the city has seen a massive construction boom with new buildings going up all the time.
The most famous of these, the Petronas Towers were until recently the tallest buildings in the whole world, and at 452m high, are an instantly recognisable symbol of the city. You can take a lift (or climb the stairs) to the observation deck at the top of the tower, and see amazing views over the city.
Another attraction of Kuala Lumpur at the other end of the spectrum in more ways than one is the famous Batu Caves. These caves are regularly used as the backdrop for performances, and the largest is used as a Hindu temple, and features a number of amazing statues.
Shopping in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur deserves its reputation as one of the top shopping cities in Asia, and has literally thousands of places where you can spend money. From the street markets of China Town to the more modern shopping malls around the Golden Triangle area close to Petronas Towers.
The most popular places to shop are the Jalan Petaling night market, and the Bintan Walk shopping mall. Goods are generally a lot cheaper in the UK - especially if you claim the local tax back when you leave the country.
Kuala Lumpur Sporting Events
The biggest event in the sporting calendar of Kuala Lumpur is the annual Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix. The race takes place at the state of the art Sepang racetrack just outside the city, and attracts around a hundred thousand people each year.
There are several golf courses around Kuala Lumpur, and other first class facilities left over from the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
Around the city, you can find many American style sports bars, where you can watch most major sporting events including the English Premiership on big screens.
