Hanover Overview
Hanover, situated on the banks of the River Leine in Germany, dates back to medieval times, although is known now as the home of the trade fair and lays fair claim as one of Germany's richest cities.
The city offers a real mix of old and new, with the heart of the Old Town, its narrow streets and traditional squares, an enchanting step back from the modern infrastructure that surrounds it. There are also some quite breathtaking garden and park areas within the city, the Herrenhauser Garten being particularly striking.
2006 sees Germany hosting the FIFA World Cup, and Hanover is one of the cities chosen to hold some of the games, a major coup for any city. It is indicative of Hanover's infrastructure, that will be able to deal with the vast number of people visiting the city over a short period of time, aided in no small part by the previous experience gained with trade fairs and exhibitions. Probably the most well known is CeBIT, an IT event that is absolutely huge and acknowledged in global terms as the biggest and best. If it's happening in IT then it will be seen at CeBIT.

Hanover Sporting Events
One of the worlds largest sporting events, the FIFA World Cup, comes to Germany in 2006, and Hanover will host a number of group matches as well as one of the knockout games. The stadium has been renovated especially for the event and is an absolutely outstanding arena for football that will do the game and the city proud.
