Gothenburg Overview

Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden, located on the western coast, with around 480,000 inhabitants. The city's location, with its easy access to the North Sea, made it a major port, and the most significant in Scandinavia.

This trade stimulated the area's economy for many years, and from these foundations a number of major organisations developed here, most notably Volvo and Ericsson, who have generated significant global businesses, helped no doubt by the port allowing easy access to export channels.

The nightlife in the city is varied and enjoyable, with many clubs, bars and restaurants catering for all tastes. In summer especially the city streets come alive as the activity moves out onto the streets, with the local establishments setting up tables and chairs to attract visitors in.

The city is home to the largest amusement park in Scandinavia, the Liseberg. Dating back originally to 1923 it is a very popular site for visitors and locals, providing a real change of pace and scenery in the midst of the city. It is a major draw, with it recently being voted in the top 10 amusement parks worldwide.

Gothenburg is a particularly interesting city to visit, combining the different cultures that a port always has with the inherent Scandinavian personality and style. This mix makes for an entertaining and enjoyable time.
