Fort Myers Overview
Fort Myers is a popular tourist destination in south Florida USA. The population of the city is just over 50,000, but this number does not include the many people who visit the area, which increases the total dramatically. The area around here is where a number of retirement villages are to be found, although the actual population of the city is relatively young, since these villages are a little further afield, outside the city proper.
The climate of the area is one of its key attractions, with particularly warm weather, even in winter, and on the whole not too much rainfall, Fort Myers can welcome visitors all year round which is great for the economy.
A place that all visitors should see are the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. Named after Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, who shared adjacent properties here and were good friends. The place is now a museum and outstanding botanical garden, that was used originally by Edison as an experimental zone. There are over a thousand different plants here now, including a 400 foot Banyan tree and some truly amazing African Sausage trees that have to be seen to be believed.
Fort Myers and the surrounding areas have worked really hard to create an environment and atmosphere that welcomes the visitor, provides them with a fantastic time and keeps them happy. They win on all counts it must be said.

With many displays and exhibits it takes the visitor on a journey through time, back to the pioneering days of the area to see how the place came into being, and from there how it developed and grew.

As with many US cities, shopping plays a big part. In Fort Myers the outlet mall is king, with a number of them in close proximity. These malls offer great value, with the products being primarily end of line or season. The Miromar Outlets is one of the largest ones, with all the major brand names on offer.

With a large population of tourists and more elderly people it is no surprise to find golf high on the list of popular sports here. The settings are magnificent it has to be said, and with so much demand there are many courses catering for the golfing aficionado. The whole area is rich with courses, being promoted as a golfing destination for many years.
