Denver Overview
Denver lies at the point where the Colorado plains and the Rocky Mountains meet, and is famously, at an altitude of almost exactly one mile above sea level. On the surface Denver is a just like ant other modern American city, but beneath the patina of respectability and middle of the road existence, the age of the pioneers is still about visible in the attitudes and nature of the local population.
With plenty of normal urban attractions available in Denver in the form of galleries, museums, and, of course, the famous zoo, there is also a charming local nightlife which is half country and western, and half pop music depending on where you head, and Denver is proud to provide some of the best shopping available in Middle America. Overall, there is no shortage of things for visitors to the Mile High City to enjoy during their stay.
Denver is the gateway to the eastern parts of the Rocky Mountains, and is a great place to begin a self-drive holiday taking in some of the most stunning landscapes in the country. There are two popular mountain resorts close by, bohemian Boulder, and swanky Aspen, where you can rub shoulders with more celebrities that you'd see in a copy of Hello magazine on the slopes.

Of historic and cultural importance to Denver, the Amphitheatre hosts concerts and performances throughout the year, and is a great place to see a show on a warm summer evening.
The other main area of Denver for socialising is around Larimer Square, where many nineteenth century buildings have been converted into bars and cafes. Close by in the civic centre of Denver, you can visit the Black American Western Museum and Heritage centre.
