British Airways Profits take off

British Airways has announced a welcomed 50% increase in its operating profit for the first half of 2007.  The news was commented on by Willie Walsh who has mentioned that the increase in profits was due to the way the business has managed to cut its costs and increase its own staff’s effectiveness.  The profits announcement also comes at a troubled time for airlines operating from within the United Kingdom.

British Airways has welcomed the lifting of high security on hand luggage

Since the terrorist attack in Glasgow last year, strict security on hand luggage was put in place.  Passengers flying on any aircraft were only allowed one piece of hand luggage per person.  From 7th January 2008 the UK government has decided to lift these restrictions.

British Airways have announced today that they have secured a deal for 24 new Boeing 787 ‘Dreamliners’ which is said to be worth a total of £2.2 billion.  The ‘Dreamliners’ will be made specifically for British Airways with additional options.  British Airways have purchased rights to buy almost twice this amount of Boeings in the future.

British Airways announces new routes to Europe

New routes are planned for British Airways from London city Airport, Heathrow airport and London Gatwick airport for next year. British Airways subsidiary, BA Cityflyer will start a flight service between docklands airport and Nice. This new flights service will start March 2008. Investigation continues on the British Airways crash

Although investigations continue on the British Airways crash, it is now thought that contaminated fuel is the cause of the Boeing 777-200ER losing all its power.
