Virgin Atlantic encourages carrying Sporting Equipment

Virgin Atlantic have announced that sports enthusiasts can now take one piece of sporting equipment on board with them which will be an addition to their original baggage allowance to go in the hold.
Virgin has made this announcement after British Airways decided to ban some sporting equipment to most places and on their flights to Orlando and other USA destinations. British Airways have banned: surf boards, pole vaults and javelins as from 6th November 2007 these will no longer be carried with British Airways.
Virgin Atlantic is providing FREE carriage for all sports equipment on their flights.The following sports equipment are included in the free carriage: diving equipment, golf equipment, fishing equipment, hang gliders, snow skis, surfboards, windsurfing boards, booms and sails, bicycles, paragliders, canoes and kayaks. These can all be checked into the hold free of charge as long as the dimensions and weight of the sporting equipment complies with the airlines allowances on additional luggage.
The additional baggage dimensions for Virgin Atlantic are: weight should be no more than 32kg and no more than 62 inches width, height and length. The sporting equipment must not go over these dimensions without prior consent.
