Thai Airways International hopes to attract 600,000 wealthy Indian tourists

Thai Airways International and the Tourism Authority of Thailand have set new targets for tourism this year. They are planning to increase the number of tourists from 500,000 to 600,000. They will be focusing this campaign at people in major cities who have high purchasing power.

Last year the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Airways International aimed their campaign at six cities including New Delhi, Bombay, Chennai, Calcutta, Bangalore and Hyderabad where Thai Airways International are already offering direct return flights to Bangkok/a>

This year in order to raise the tourist numbers to 600,000 they plan to target India.
The number of Indian visitors to Thailand via Suvarnabhumi Airport in 2007 was 494,259, up 19.22 per cent from 414,582 in the previous year.

Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya the director of Tourism Authority of Thailand overseas office in New Delhi, said that this year, the agency would expand a marketing plan to other major cities such as Pune, located around 150 kilometres east of Mumbai. It is the second largest city in the Maharashtra State.
