Gulf Air to consider an early lease of 787’s

Gulf Air, the Bahrain based airline have placed an order for 16 new Boeing 787s which they are due to take delivery of in 2016.They are now planning on bringing the delivery forward and arranging leases to introduce the new Boeing 787 earlier. These will fly on Gulf Airs main routes in the Middle East including flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Gulf Air have order 16 of the new 787s but now plan on leasing the current Boeing 787-8. The engines that will be fitted into the new aircrafts has not been decided and Gulf Air have said that decision will be made at a later date. A spokesman for the airline says that the carrier may opted for the twin-jet because it has unrivalled capability and performance.

If the purchase for the new aircrafts does go ahead the bill is looking to be upto USD6 billion. The spokeman continued by saying that the 24 aircraft is a huge order and will be an investment at the forefront of Gulf Airs continued expansion of the long haul operation.
