American Airlines pilots seek Union mediation help

The 12,000 pilots who work for American Airlines is asking the airlines management to join them in asking for help from the National Mediation Board regarding their ongoing contract negations.
The negations between American Airline pilots and the National Mediation Board started way back in September 2006 discussing the contract issues which still have not been resolved, putting under threat some flights to New York and other key destinations, but the contract is not amendable until 1st May 2008. An APA spokesperson said that he was predicting that the mediation board would find a resolution and that a result would be forthcoming.
Airline labour union discussions often involve the National Mediation Board. Only the board can declare the talks at an impasse, which could result in strike action or a lock-out if the sides are unable to reach terms.
