Alitalia deals moves forward

Published: 10/05/08

The deal for the large chunk of the Italian Government’s stake in Alitalia, an airline that has previously offered regularly flights to London Airports, to be bought by the AirFrance-KLM group seems to have a big step in the right direction. The announcement made by an Italian minister in parliament has also said that there still might be room for the state to at least keep a small stake in the airline should the conditions on the buy back options on the airline be acceptable.

The announcement comes as a great relief to many parties especially as the deal was starting to stumble over some of the ideas that KLM-AirFrance had. This latest set of discussions is due to iron out the potential problems the deal may face and that the final deal will have to meet the general needs of the country.

AirFrance-KLM partnership was chose as favoured buyer by the Italian government as they offered the most credible solution to deal with Alitalia’s crippling financial problems.
