Virgin Plane disrupts Antigua

Published: 27/06/08

V.C. Bird International airport in Antigua was shut down for seven hours today and all aircrafts coming in to land were diverted after a virgin Atlantic aircraft was coming into land and ran off the runway and sank its nose wheel in the soil at the side of the runway.

The Virgin Atlantic aircraft was on schedule for take-off and was turning around at the end of the runway, preparing for it take-off when the Boeing 747 400 seem to fall off the runway.
None of the 431 passengers or 18 crew members who were on board was hurt.

It appeared that the pilot of the Virgin Atlantic flight turned too wide and did not judge the width of the runway right which led to the nose wheel coming off the runway.

Flights to St. Johns where the airport is located was soon back to normal once the aircraft was removed.
