UK airports handling now handling over 100 million passengers a year

The latest figures of annual passengers travelling through UK regional airports has risen to over to over 10 million.

This is three times more than what the annual passenger figures were in 1990. According to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) the growth of the big London airports have risen by 2.5% in 2006 whereas the regional airports have continued to grow at a rate of 4%.  This shows that passengers travelling from the UK are making much more use of there regional airports than they are travelling to London to use airports like Luton, Gatwick or Heathrow.
Airlines that have international scheduled flight services have found that the demand for them has increased twofold between 2002 and 2006.

In 1990 the only airports that offered daily scheduled flights to over 12 international destinations were Birmingham and Manchester, now according to the CAA there are now 8 regional airports that offer these international daily flights services too. From regional airports you can now get flights to Australia and flights to many other long haul destinations across the world.
