The former Tory environment minister John Gummer wants flights between London and Manchester to be scrapped. John Gummer claims there is no reason why people should fly to London from Manchester or visa versa and should be made to take the train instead.
His statement was made in a report on green issues which will be given to the conservative leader David Cameron in time for him drawing up his party’s environment policy.
Mr Gummer has said that many more people are choosing to travel the 200 mile journey between Manchester and London by high-speed rail link saying that this is a much greener way to travel between the two cities and if the flights are grounded this will cut unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions.
