Australia’s biggest airline, Qantas has been accused of price fixing, a charge which they have now pleaded guilty to.  The charges have been made against Qantas for fixing prices on international cargo shipments and have been fined $70 million.

The investigation has found that Qantas has been fixing prices to eliminate competition from other airlines for cargo shipments to and from the United States since January 2000 to the beginning of last year.

Qantas have agreed to cooperate throughout the rest of the investigation. This is the third case that has developed on airlines admitting to price fixing after British Airways and Korean Air Lines pleaded guilty to similar charges in August.

Peter Habison is the Managing director of Sydney consulting firm Asia Pacific Aviation has said that these charges that have been brought upon Qantas Airlines will not affect any passenger that will be flying with them now or in the future.
