London Boroughs rubbish plans to scrap Gatwick rail link

Published: 16/06/08

A Proposal is going ahead by Southern Trains and the Government to terminate the Clapham junction on the Watford to Brighton services and replace it with a link.
If this proposed action goes ahead it would mean the loss of direct train service between west London and Gatwick Airport.

Councils in West London are protesting against the changes, the councils include Kensington, Chelsea, Croydon, Brent, Wandsworth, Hammersmith and Fulham and Harrow.
The above councils feel that the proposed change is a short sighted move on the part of the government.

If the changes go ahead it would mean that people who travel the line from west London to places like Croydon, Brighton and Gatwick will have to now change trains at the Clapham junction at platform 17 which means more people gathering around the notorious hazardous platform gap between the train and the platform.
