Qantas Plan to expand on current fleet

Australia’s biggest airline – Qantas it off on the hunt to buy many new aircraft to make sure that the competition is kept truly in check. A recent Qantas announcement has mentioned that they intend to buy up to 180 new aircraft from both Boeing and Airbus to make sure it keeps its stranglehold on the Australian flights market as well as allowing the business to move in to the Asian market.

The aggressive move by Qantas will almost double their fleet and despite the huge cost of $12 billion dollars will not affect its investment grade rating. The move will also have some knock on effects for some of Australia’s cities including Perth and Darwin as it will be these cities that are used to penetrate the highly lucrative Asian markets.

Technical specifications for the new aircraft include the Boeing 737-800s and the A320 from Airbus. Other aircraft included in the huge order include A321 which can carry a maximum of 213, again strengthening the airline’s portfolio.
