Qantas increases fuel charges on international flights

Published: 18/07/08

Any passenger that books an international Qantas flight on and after January 17th will be charged the new increased fuel surcharge.

Qantas have said these charges are unavoidable because of the record increase in oil prices.
Qantas, an Australian airline has said that in the first six months of the increased fuel charges, the increase will only apply to passengers that are flying one way to international destinations and both its mainline and discount Jetstar airlines.

The fuel surcharge on Jetstar flights will increase on a flat rate on all international flights at A$10.  The fuel surcharge on Qantas flights for most of its routes will rise about 14%.
Since the WTI, crude oil prices have risen to over US$100 per barrel, so we don’t think it will be long before other airlines follow Qantas in increasing the fuel surcharge.
