Less Baggage at Stansted Airport

Published: 26/07/08

There was a heavy sigh of relief at Stansted Airport and other UK airports recently as it has been announced that UK regulations on baggage handling are finally being relaxed.  From the beginning of 2008 airline flight customers will once again be able to take more than 1 bag on as hand luggage. The increase in regulations came after the attempted airport attacks in Britain in June of 2007. Other restrictions on flight passengers included not being able to take fluids, canisters and other toiletries on board.

The recent relaxation of rules is due to, according to the UK government, the recent developments in airport screening technology and the way it can be used in detecting potential threats. The change in rules will also be greatly welcomed by the airline’s themselves as thousands of flights to Dubai, the USA and other worldwide destinations have been massively affected.

The transport secretary Ruth Kelly has said however that the rules will not be changed without each airport submitting their own security plans to make sure they meet with the government’s standards.

A spokesman for Stansted airport is welcoming the news but also added they understand the need for a healthy mix between the demands for security and the need to meet customer’s expectations.
