Since the terrorist attack in Glasgow last year, strict security on hand luggage was put in place. Passengers flying on any aircraft were only allowed one piece of hand luggage per person. From 7th January 2008 the UK government has decided to lift these restrictions.
Some airlines have decided to stick with the restrictions until further notice but most airlines included British Airways have welcomed the decision and their passengers flying through London Heathrow airport will now be able to take 2 pieces of hand luggage on the aircraft with them. There are some grey areas to the restrictions being lifted, such as London Gatwick airport and other airport still have the restrictions in place for all airlines. Robert Boyle, British Airways' commercial director, said, "This is great news for our customers and it's something we've been lobbying for over the last year. "It was a serious inconvenience for passengers and didn't make sense because the UK was the only country to impose the restrictions.”
