Speculation that Virgin Atlantic will take over the London Eye

Published: 07/08/08

Yesterday British Airways announced it was cutting its sponsorship for the London Eye.
The London Eye is one of London most popular tourist attractions that were built to celebrate the Millennium.

British Airways have said they are pulling out of the sponsorship because their priorities have changed and from February the huge attraction will not be known as the British Airways London Eye anymore.

It is said that British Airways invested several million pounds a year into the venture.
But BA chief executive Willie Walsh said: 'It has been a very good attraction for us but we felt it was time to move on.'

There have been rumours that Virgin Atlantic is to take over the sponsorship.  Virgin Atlantic made a cheeky comment yesterday when they said: 'BA couldn't get it up originally and clearly couldn't keep it up.' Referring to the difficulty British Airways had getting the attractions to a vertical position which soon turned it into a laughing stock.
