As the US Airways flight prepared for take off from T.F. Green Airport yesterday morning, preparations were grounded to a halt when a 63 year old passenger suffered from a heart attack which forced the plane to return to the gate.
The plane was heading for Charlotte, N.C. but as the aircraft journeyed back from the runway, a nurse on board used an automatic external defibrillator to get the mans heart restarted said US Airways spokeswomen.
He was later taken to Kent Hospital, in Warwick, where he remained in “critical but stable” condition yesterday, according to airport spokeswoman Patti Goldstein.
“The emergency response was there for this victim,” Goldstein said. “They were able to get him back with a pulse.” Airport police withheld the name of the passenger, pending notification of his relatives. He was travelling with his wife when he suffered cardiac arrest, Goldstein said. She was transported to the hospital following the incident.
