Auckland Flights, New Zealand Highlights
Lying on the northern tip of New Zealand, the city of Auckland is a peaceful, yet exciting destination; the home of some a million people. Popular as a destination for couples and families alike, Auckland has plenty to occupy tourists, and something that everyone visiting Auckland should see is the famous 328 metre tall Sky Tower – an exciting part of any trip to New Zealand!
The biggest tourism event in the Auckland calendar is the annual Turangawaewae Regatta. In celebration of the history and traditions of the local Maoris, an invasion of war canoes approach the city, and there is plenty of posturing and shouting to invoke the blessings of the gods and guarantee victory and prestige for the rest of the year.
Another major festival with a decidedly nautical bent is the Auckland Anniversary and Regatta. This event celebrates the founding of Auckland when Captain Hobson discovered the bay and landed for the first time. It takes place in January each year at the height of the southern hemisphere summer.
